Full day tour around
the Island. In the morning the local guide will contact you at the hotel to begin the tour. Starting along the south coast of the island the first stop will be in Ahu Vaihu. Platform with 8 moais shot down during tribal wars. Next stop will be in Ahu Akahanga
where you can see a platform with 12 moai and a typical unrestored
Rapanui
village with remains of houses, ancient ovens and a small cave. Driving
to the
east coast we will continue to Ahu Tongariki, one of the most popular
and big
platforms on the island with 15 restored moais. Following the ride will stop at Rano Raraku Volcano where in about 1 hour walk you will see more than 400 moai in various stages of carving. Here you will learn the history of carving and moving the statues and also feel the energy that this place still holds. After the walk you can enjoy a delicious lunch at the foot of the volcano and have time to visit the handicraft market. To continue the magic of the island we will drive to the northeast side to stop at Ahu Te Pito Kura. This place is known for having the largest moai carved and transported (10 mts. Approx.) and also a perfect stone full of energy that is on the edge of the sea and according to the story would have been brought from Hiva by King Hotu Matu'a. To end a busy day we will stop in the idyllic beach
called "Anakena" with white sands and turquoise waters. The beach also has the Ahu Ature Huki ad Ahu Nau Nau
which both where the scene of great discoveries. Box lunch included. Dinner not included. |

Seven Moais and Orongo. We will start visiting Ahu Tahai with 3 restored platforms featuring the only moai that have white coral eyes. Continue the tour with a visit to Ahu Akivi, with 7 moai facing the sea and restored in 1960. Landscapes around this ahu show a variety of volcanoes and some farms with pineapples, taro, sweet potatoes and more. Next stop will be at Puna Pau. This was the place where natives carved the moai topknots or "Pukao" .We will walk to the top of a small volcano to see a red scoria crater and a beautiful view of the Terevaka volcano and Hanga Roa. Back to the hotel. Lunch not included. Duration: 3 hours approx. After a refreshing lunch continue our afternoon day trip, we will leave town and visit Ahu Vinapu. In this place we will see a special and perfect wall construction very similar to the Inca walls. There is also one red scoria moai that could represent a woman with two heads. Continuing the journey by car we will stop at Rano Kau volcano crater which has the most beautiful views of the island. This is breathtaking and the sea around people will make you feel at the “navel of the world”. For the latest stage in the history of the island before the arrival of Catholic missionaries we will go to “Orongo” Ceremonial village. Here you will know in detail the Bird Man or Tangata Manu Competition that lasted more than 2 centuries and ended in about 1864. This activity consisted of going to a small island called Motu Nui in search of Manutara egg to be proclaimed king of the island for one year. Can’t miss in the village “Mata Ngarahu” area with more than 450 petroglyphs related to fertility and Tangata Manu competition. Before finish our tour, we will stop at "Ana Kai Tangata”, cave with rock paintings related to Manutara birds and also shows where the wooden canoes were built. Back to the village you can enjoy a beautiful sunset, full of color sitting at Ahu Tahai or anywhere nears the sea. Back to the hotel, dinner not included. |

Terevaka
hill
and
caves. The day starts with the trekking to Terevaka, the highest point of the island. In approximately 1 ½ hours walk we will reach the top of the volcano. You will see a unique view of the island and also the curvature of the earth. Going back will be more relaxed and we will continue to Ana Te Pahu or Bananas Cave. At this visit you can enter the cave and get you through underground tunnels that were occupied by rapanui families in the past as a refuge in war times and during the visit of the first foreigners. Here you will see many trees, bananas, grapes, avocado and taro that were part of the natives diet. Then you will go to Ana te Pora to see another small cave. Inside you will see a stone building that could have been a ceremonial center. To end the tour we will go to the most famous of the local caves: "The Cave of the two windows”. Its only one lava tunnel that takes you to two exits facing the sea as two natural windows. You will have to crawl using flashlights to find the path that leads to the two windows. For that you will be always guided by an expert local guide using special helmets for your protection. Back to town you can walk through its streets and visit all the craft shops where you can take a souvenir of your visit. Duration: 6 hours Lunch not included.
