ATACAMA TRAVERSE AND CLIMB THREE VOLCANOES
Lascar, San Pedro and Guallatiri

Duration : 20 days
Difficulty: High Altitude during the volcanoes climbing.
Minimum : 3 persons
Suitable date : Any season. Best from March to October

This trip goes over the great area of Atacama Desert. The main places are the Geysers of Tatio, Valle de la Luna (moon valley), Salar de Atacama, climb the volcanoes Lascar, San Pedro and Guallatiri, visit the Isluga National Park, Chungara lake and more.

Day 1: Arrival to Santiago.
Pick up the Group at the Santiago airport. Private transfer to our Hotel in Santiago. Equipment check.
Day 2: Fly Santiago to Calama.
Pick up at the Hotel. Transfer to Airport. Arrival to Calama, mining city at 2.400m. (7,900 ft) on the Atacama Desert. Transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, small village (oasis) on the desert. Visit Valle de la Luna (Moon valley) impressive valley formed of uplifted lake sediments, the peaks of the Salt Range (Cordillera de la Sal) have been shaped by wind into a variety of unusual formations. Just outside of San Pedro de Atacama, the Valle de la Luna is best visited at sunset. Hotel.

Day 3: Trekking for acclimatization from San Pedro to Tatio Geysers.
Three day trek. From San Pedro de Atacama, After visit the Pukara (fortresses) Quitor, carved into the side of a cliff, dating from 12th century, we will begging our trek through the canyon of Rio Grande. This trek runs in some places into the creek. We will walk for 5 hour until San Bartolo, place of our camp.
Day 4: San Bartolo – Rio Grande.
Today we trek to Rio Grande, a small village who live by farming and herding, where we set up the camp. Tent.
Day 5: Rio Grande – Machuca - Tatio.
Trekking up the Altiplano to reach Machuca village (6h). Along the way we will see examples of terrace agriculture, carried out today just as it was in ancient times. Climbing from 2,700m. (8,860 ft.) to an altitude of 3,400m. (11,800 ft.), we come to the village of Machuca, where we pick up our support team. Machuca was a regular stopover for ancient llama caravans traveling the Inca Trail. Despite the lovely surroundings, rich in flora and fauna, only a few shepherds now live in this lonely Spot. Drive to El Tatio (Hot springs) where we spend the night. Camp.
Day 6: Tatio Geysers – Puritama Hotsprings – Lascar Volcano base camp.
After visit this place, we will drive back to San Pedro de Atacama. 30 km before we will stop at the Puritama hot springs time to enjoy a relaxing bath. We will drive to the south crossing the Salar de Atacama, visiting the Toconao village. Arrival to Lascar base camp.
Day 7:

Summit day Lascar.
Climb Lascar Volcano 5.154m. (16,900 ft.) and return to base camp. This is the most active volcano in the area of Atacama.


Day 8: Drive to San Pedro de Atacama.
From Base camp Lascar, we will drive to visit Laguna Lejía, laguna Miniques, and we will visit Peine and return to San Pedro de Atacama. Hotel.
Day 9: Volcano San Pedro Base camp.
From San Pedro de Atacama we will drive to Calama and the to the north until Conchi to take the dirt road until Volcano San Pedro base camp. Tent.

Day 10: Drive/trek to C1.
C1 at 4.500 m. We will mix a drive and trek approach to improve our acclimatization. Camp.

Day 11: Hike to c2.
Hike to C2 at 5.300 m.


Day 12: San Pedro Volcano Summit day.
Top at 6.145m. (20,160ft.) about 5-6 hours from c2. Back to C1.


Day 13: Ollague.
Back to the pick ups and drive to north until Ollague village. In this day we will drive off road through the Altiplano (high lands) crossing the Salares (salt lakes) of Ascotan and Carcote. Tent.

Day 14: Chusmisa.
After drive the first kilometers in a dirt road, we will down the high land of Atacama Desert until Pozo al Monte village. In this area, we will visiting the old places of mining villages of nitrate. After that we will up the Andes again. until Chusmisa hotsprings, pleasant thermal waters of 40ºC. Camp.

Day 15: Salar of Surire.
In the high Andes, we will visiting the Isluga National Park, where the Isluga Volcano of 5.530m. is located. The trip continue through the high land until the Salar of Surire. Camp.
Day 16: Guallatiri Volcano.
Transfer to the base camp of Guallatiri. Tent.
Day 17: Summit of Guallatiri. (6.063m.)
Day 18: Guallatiri - Chungara - Arica.
Drive to Chungara lake located at 4.500m with great view of the Parinacota Volcano. Down from the high land to the sea level until Arica City. On the way down we will stop at village of Putre at 3.600m. Arrival to Arica at the evening, Hotel.
Day 19: Fly to Santiago.
Private transfer to Arica airport. Fly back to Santiago. Pick up at the Santiago airport, private transfer to the Hotel.

Day.20: Fly back.
Pick up at the hotel. Private transfer to airport. Flight back.
