Ojos del Salado volcano also called the highest volcano in the world, is located in the Atacama Desert, around 900 km. north of Santiago, near Copiapo City in Chile. This impressive volcano in the hearth of high plateau (altiplano) is surrounding by salt lakes and many of others high peaks and other volcanos. This is the second highest mountain outside Asia. We will enjoy one of the most spectacular mountaineering places in Chile, composed of many colors in a full isolation of large cities.
This is a extreme and demanding expedition, due we reached a altitude of 6,980m above sea level. The climate have many contrast, from warm days to extreme cold at night. We must be in very good shape to walk properly at high altitude in a rocky path, hard snow specially on summit day.
We provide all support for this adventure, variated food, experienced mountain guides, hotels, transportation, satellite phone, and more...

Day 1: Arrival to Santiago.
Pick up the group at Santiago airport. Private transfer to our Hotel in Santiago. Our guide will check personal mountaineering equipment. If you need to get extra mountainering materia, in santiago there are several stores to buy and rent equipment. We have also material for rent if you need it. Dinner not included.
Day 2:

Flight to Copiapo.
Breakfast and pick up at hotel in Santiago. Private transfer to Airport. Fly to Copiapo (included in our trip price). Arrival at Copiapo and transfer to our Hotel (Las Pircas).
Meet our mountain guide and discuss our Ojos del Salado program. Dinner not included.

Day 3:

Copiapo – Valle Chico.

Breakfast. Start our expedition towards the Andes Mountains. In the morning we load our vehicles and finish all trip details. After lunch, drive to Valle Chico located at 3,200m (10.500ft), nice place with green grass in middle of dried mountains and ideal for our first stop at low altitude to initiate our acclimatization. Set up our camp and dinner.

Day 4: Maricunga.
Breakfast. Drive to Maricunga salt lake, at 11,811ft. (3.600 meters of altitude), impressive area where Andean flamingos nest. Set up our camp will closely to the Salar and Santa Rosa lagoon.
Maricunga is located at the Parque Nacional Nevado Tres Cruces, a protected area of Chilean altiplano. (National Park Tres Cruces). The park is named after Nevado Tres Cruces, which dominates the landscape of the area. The Nevado Tres Cruces National Park is managed by CONAF, which offers two refuges in the area. Dinner in a dinner tent.
Day 5: Acclimatization hike.
Breakfast in the morning. Hike Siete Hermanos peak of 4,890m. This hike that will help us to acclimatize at the altitude and dry air.
Back to our camp. Dinner in our dinner tent.

Day 6: Laguna Verde.
Breakfast. Drive in our 4WD pick ups to Laguna Verde at 14,108ft. (4.300 meters of altitude above sea level). Incomparable turquoise color lake. Here we will set up our camp besides the lagoon and hotspring. This will be our base camp and we spend several days for improove our acclimatization. For all days here we will have our dinner tent with tables and chairs where breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served.

Day 7: Rest day.
Breakfast. Morning trek around Laguna Verde. Lunch and dinner in our camp. Day for improve our aclimatization. Depending of our acclimatization and fit conditions, our guide will choose activity for today (rest, mild walks, long walks or hike).
Day 8: Hike to Mulas Muertas summit.
Breakfast in the morning. We continue our acclimatization hiking Mulas Muertas of 19,347ft. (5.897 meters of altitude). Return to our camp at Laguna Verde.
Dinner.
Day 9: Atacama camp.
Breakfast. Drive up to Refugio Atacama at 17,388ft. (5.300 meter of altitude). This is our high altitude base camp. From this place we have a perfect view our our summit route. Here we organize all material and foos that will be porter to last camp Tejos. Tents.
Dinner into dinner tent.
Day 10: Tejos camp - Atacama camp.
Breakfast. Carry part of our equipment and food to Tejos camp (refuge). Back to Atacama camp. Dinner.
Day 11: Tejos camp.
Breakfast. Hike up to Refugio Tejos camp for sleep. In Atacama we will leave all material not necessary for our summit day. High altitude dinner.

Day 12: Summit Day.
Breakfast before sunshine. Climb Ojos del Salado Volcano through north route path. Probably use of crampons depending of snow conditions. Once into the crater we use a rope to climb safe last 40 meters until top of volcano. Back to Tejos camp. If group are in well conditions we also can walk down until Atacama camp.
Dinner.
Day 13: Ojos del Salado summit.
Extra summit day in case of bad wheater of get better acclimatization. B-L-D.
Day 14: Bahia Inglesa.
Breakfast in the morning. Carry all load in our pick ups vehicles. Drive down to Laguna Verde hot spring. Short stop to take a termal bath. Continue driving to east until Pacific Ocean where we will arrive at beach of Bahia Inglesa. Hotel.
Day 15: Fly to Santiago.
Private transfer to Copiapo airport. Fly back to Santiago. Our staff will pick up at the Santiago airport and transfer you to our Hotel.

Day.16:
Fly home.
Breakfast. Pick up at the hotel. Private transfer to airport for return flight.

ATACAMA DESERT PERSONAL MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT LIST


Upper body: 
- 2 T-shirt’s long sleeve polypropylene
- 1 T-shirt’s polypropylene short sleeve
- 1 expedition weight polypropylene or capilene shirt
- 1 jacket of pounds or fleece
- 1 breathable jacket such as Gore-Tex with hood
- 1 jacket of pile
- Down or Polarguard parka with hood
- White long sleeve shirt (for sunlight in the desert)

Head
- Sun cap
- Ski hat fleece or wool
- Balaclava

Hands
- 1 pair of gloves thin polypropylene
- 1 pair of gloves heavy polypropylene
- 1 pair of gloves doubles (neoprene or fleece internal layer /Gore-Tex shell)

Lower body: 
- 2 lightweight polypropylene underpants
- 1 fleece pants with full length side zippers
- 1 breathable windproof pants or bibs such as Gore-Tex (full length side zippers recommended)
- 1 lightweight trekking pants (for drive days and lower camps)

Feet
- 4 pair of sock (cotton-polypropylene)
– Trekking boots or lightweight trekking shoes
- Plastic double mountaineering boots or Leather/synthetic layer
